Lukaku: I Live To Score Goals But I Also Want To Help My Team

In an interview with sponsor Puma, Inter striker Romelu Lukaku has spoken on what he has done whilst football has been on hold.

“What I miss most is competing with opponents, being in full stadiums and feeling the support from the fans. I am using this time to analyse my performances and indeed, more generally, everything I have done in the last six months. You can always improve in football,” he started the interview which was broadcast on the German brand’s Instagram profile earlier on today.

Lukaku proceeded to speak about helping his teammates out and gave an insight into all the hard work that is put in.

“I live to score goals but I also want to help my team and I must always be ready to help my teammates out. Personal statistics have little importance.

“When you’re in the box you have to be dynamic and attack the spaces at the right times. We train a lot, we watch videos every day with the aim of analysing our mistakes and to avoid re-committing them in the future.”

The Belgian national team forward then went on to reveal some of the players he looked up to whilst he was growing up, two of whom are former Inter players.

“I loved Adriano, who did great things whilst at Inter. My first memories of international football go back to the 1998 World Cup. At the time Il Fenomeno Ronaldo was above the rest. I also admired Thierry Henry and Didier Drogba.”

Lukaku concluded the interview by commenting on the ongoing global Coronavirus pandemic and hit out at those in power for waiting for a player to test positive before deciding to suspend things.

“Health comes first. Why should we play if there are people in the world who are risking their lives. Why was it only necessary for a player to test positive in order for football to stop. It’s not normal.

“I will admit that I do miss football, but now the most important thing is people’s health. Everything else comes secondary to that.”

Lukaku joined Inter this past Summer from Premier League club Manchester United in what was a club record transfer for Inter.

This season he has scored 23 goals in 35 appearances across all competitions and he has also provided a handful of assists for teammates.
