A Nigerian man has taken to social media to lament after falling victim to an online scam, losing ₦100,000 to a fraudster posing as a Jumia agent while attempting to purchase a mobile phone.
In a series of posts shared on X (formerly Twitter), the man recounted how he was deceived.
He explained that he had tried to order a phone online and, believing he had found a legitimate channel, engaged in a conversation with someone claiming to be a Jumia agent.
After several exchanges, the scammer requested an initial deposit of ₦50,000 to process the order.
Shortly after, he was asked to send an additional ₦50,000 for undisclosed reasons stated in their chat.
However, after making both payments, he realized he had been scammed when no order was processed. Frustrated, he took to social media to share his ordeal and seek help.
As his post gained traction, concerned individuals flooded the comment section, sharing their thoughts and warning others to be cautious of similar scams.
