A social media user has shared a story claiming that a businessman allegedly lost a contract worth more than ₦20 million after using WhatsApp’s disappearing messages feature, sparking debate online about trust and professionalism in business communications.
According to the account posted on X, the businessman had initially submitted a proposal to a company’s manager, who was impressed enough to arrange a meeting with the firm’s director.
The proposal reportedly received positive feedback, with the director expressing willingness to approve the project.
The user explained that before granting final approval, the director requested some amendments and provided his WhatsApp contact for the submission of a revised quotation. The document was reportedly sent as instructed.
However, the situation allegedly took an unexpected turn shortly after the quotation was delivered. The businessman reportedly noticed that he could no longer view the director’s WhatsApp display picture just minutes after sending the document.
Concerned by the development, he reportedly contacted the manager overseeing the process to find out what had happened.
According to the X user, the manager informed the businessman that the director had decided to discontinue discussions regarding the contract and had instructed the company to seek another contractor for the project.
The post further claimed that the director’s decision was linked to the use of WhatsApp’s disappearing messages feature.
The director allegedly viewed the setting as a red flag and an indication of questionable character, making him unwilling to proceed with the business relationship.
