Manchester City found guilty on 114 of 115 Premier League financial charges as club face major sanctions

Premier League club, Manchester City have reportedly been found guilty of breaking the majority of the 115 financial rules they were accused of breaching.

The verdict follows a long-running investigation into the club’s business dealings, leaving the reigning champions at risk of severe sporting and financial sanctions.

The Premier League is yet to publish the judgement, but a City spokesperson told The Athletic: ”The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality. As such, Manchester City FC’s position remains consistent with the club’s statement of February 2023.

”The club has diligently respected due process for eight years on the basis the Premier League board and executive would behave as an independent, impartial and fair-minded regulator, free from partisan influence.”

The Premier League investigation into City started after German outlet Der Spiegel published leaked club documents in November 2018.

City were charged by the Premier League in February 2023 with alleged breaches of its financial rules over a nine-year period, covering the 2009/10 season through to the 2017/18 campaign. During this period, City won the Premier League three times.

The club were also charged with allegedly failing to cooperate with the league’s investigation into the club’s finances.

In response, City, who denied all charges, said in response in 2023 that the club were “surprised” by the move given the “extensive engagement” and the “vast amount of detailed materials” it had provided to the Premier League.

The case was referred to an independent commission, and a 12-week hearing began in late 2024.
