Mourinho’s Sentencing Of Pedro Leon: You Won’t Wear Real Madrid’s Shirt Again

Everyone remembers Jose Mourinho’s famous press conference wherein he attacked Pedro Leon.

The Portuguese sent a reminder to the then-Real Madrid player of his place in the squad.

“He’s not [Zinedine] Zidane nor [Diego] Maradona,” the coach said.

But few people know how harsh he was behind closed doors.

Mourinho had been furious with the player three days earlier away to Levante.

Real Madrid were drawing 0-0 in the fifth matchday in LaLiga Santander when the winger was sent to warm up.

“What’s he doing?” Mourinho yelled as he saw Pedro Leon leaning against the corner flag watching his side attack.

But Mourinho put him on anyway and he played relatively well, but it was clear he was in the bad books.

“I’m not Michel [Gonzalez, the player’s previous coach at Getafe],” Mourinho said in the dressing room after the final whistle.

“I’m something else.”

The anger didn’t stop there, though, and it carried into training at Valdebebas the next day.

“You’re not going to play again,” the Portuguese raged.

“I need players who will leave everything on the pitch, and you don’t do that.”

From then, Pedro Leon only accumulated 87 minutes across four appearances until the end of the season.
