Italy’s Serie A had the smallest points margin separating the top two teams in Europe’s five biggest football leagues.

Juventus captured their ninth consecutive Scudetto last season, despite the coronavirus pandemic halting the league for a few months.

In complete contrast, Liverpool held the biggest margin over any second-placed team in Europe’s top five leagues.

Jurgen Klopp’s men became Premier League champions last season with a whopping 18-point lead over Manchester City.

Real Madrid managed to beat Barcelona to the La Liga title by five points, which was the second-lowest margin in the table.

Bayern Munich asserted their dominance over the Bundesliga by capturing the title with a 13-point lead over fierce rivals Borussia Dortmund.

Paris Saint-Germain held a 12-point lead over Marseille and were crowned champions in April after the league was cancelled.

Fans were surprised with the points differences in each league and shared their thoughts on Reddit.

“Didn’t realise how much Bayern ended up winning the league by. Damn,” one person posted.

While another Reddit user argued: “Bundesliga would have been a touch closer if Dortmund didn’t roll over and die at the end.”

A third fan said: “Serie A has been so competitive but the fact that Juve always wins it makes it seem utterly dominated.”

And a fourth user added: “At the same time, the PL was won by a team that haven’t previously won the title in 30 years. In the last 8 seasons, it’s been won by 5 different clubs. Serie A, Ligue 1, and the Bundesliga were won by the same teams who have won 9 of the last 9 competitions, 7 of the last 8, and 8 of the last 8 respectively.”
