Kenya and Nigeria have been accused of breaking international law in the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra.
Aloy Ejimakor, counsel to Kanu made the case on his Twitter handle. He said the two African countries cannot claim ignorance of the law.
“A state shall provide for all individuals that it wishes to transfer to the custody of another state an effective, independent, impartial and individualized judicial oversight prior to transfer.
“Nigeria and Kenya are state parties to this law. Yet, they chose to break it,” Ejimakor wrote.
Kanu was rearrested and repatriated from an African country believed to be Kenya. He had fled Nigeria in 2017 after being granted bail by an Abuja Federal High Court.
Kanu is standing trial for treason over his agitation for the actualization of Biafra.
