Norwich City among clubs interested in Abuja-born left-back cap-tied to United States

Championship side Norwich City are among a number of British clubs monitoring versatile American-Nigerian defender George Bello ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old has emerged as a potential target for the Canaries as they look to strengthen their squad in a bid to challenge for promotion to the Premier League next season.

According to The72, Norwich have identified Bello as an option to reinforce the left-back position, an area that was affected by injury problems last term, with Ben Chrisene and Lucien Mahovo both spending time on the sidelines.

Born in Abuja, Bello is no longer eligible to represent Nigeria at international level.

The defender is cap-tied to the United States after making seven appearances for the national team, five of which came in competitive fixtures.

Bello enjoyed a successful 2025-26 campaign with Austrian side LASK, helping the club lift the OFB Cup.

He was among the goalscorers in the final against SCR Altach, alongside fellow players of Nigerian descent Moses Usor and Samuel Adeniran.

A product of Southern Soccer Academy and Alpharetta Ambush, Bello joined Atlanta United’s academy setup in 2016 before progressing to the senior ranks.

The defender has also gained valuable experience in both Major League Soccer and the Bundesliga, making a combined 60 appearances across the two competitions during his career.

Bello is entering the final year of his contract with LASK, although the Austrian club retain an option to extend his stay beyond next summer.
