A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Kelvin Ugwu, has stirred fresh political conversation in Nigeria after sharing a message on his official Facebook page addressing the 2027 general elections and opposition mobilisation efforts.
In the post, the cleric commented on the political positioning of Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, noting that he has already secured his place on the ballot for the 2027 elections.
He also referenced efforts to build political alliances, particularly highlighting Obi’s reported alignment with former Kano State governor, Rabi’u Kwankwaso.
According to Rev. Fr. Kelvin Ugwu, Obi has “done his part” by ensuring his participation in the next presidential race and by strengthening political cooperation ahead of the polls.
The priest further suggested that efforts to consolidate opposition support are already underway, with strategic alliances forming among key political actors.
However, he stressed that the responsibility now lies with Nigerian voters. He urged citizens to not only participate actively in the electoral process but also ensure that their votes count and are protected throughout the voting and collation stages.
“Obi has done his part by ensuring he is in the ballot for 2027. He also went the extra mile in ensuring he gets Kwankwaso to his side.
It is now up to Nigerians to do their part by voting and also going the extra mile in ensuring the votes count by ALL MEANS necessary.”
