Onuachu Bags 21st League Goal Of The Season In Genk Home Win

Paul Onuachu took his goal tally in the Belgian topflight to 21, after scoring for Genk in their 3-2 home win against Sporting Charleroi in the European qualification playoffs for next season, Completesports.com reports.

Onuachu has now scored in back-to-back games and has also netted six goals in his last six games.

Onuachu scored in the 55th minute to draw Genk level after Sporting Charleroi took the lead on 34 minutes through Marco Ilaimaharitra.

In the 59th minute Genk went 2-1 up following an own goal by Sporting Charleroi’s player Ken Nkuba.

Carlos Cuesta also got on the score sheet in the 65th minute to put Genk 3-1 ahead before Daan Heymans pulled a goal back for Sporting Charleroi on 72 minutes.

And after four rounds of games played among the four teams in the playoffs, Gent still top on 40 points with Genk in second place on 36 points.

KV Mechelen on 29 points are third while Sporting Charleroi are in fourth place on 28 points with two games left to play for each teams.

Genk next fixture in the playoffs is an home game against Gent on May 15.

In their first meeting in the playoffs, Genk triumped 1-0 thanks to a 91st minute strike.

They will round off with a trip to Mechelen on May 21 and will hope to make it a double, after recording a 4-2 win in their first meeting.

The Belgian European Qualification Playoffs

Until 2016, the teams ranked 7 to 14 after the regular season in the Belgian topflight enter the playoffs 2, with teams ranked 7th, 9th, 12th, and 14th entering group A and teams ranked 8th, 10th, 11th, and 13th entering group B.

In each group, each team plays each of its three opponents twice. The winner of each group played the final game in two legs to determine the winner of the playoffs 2.

The winner of the playoffs 2 then plays a home and away game against either the fourth-place or fifth-place team from the playoffs 1 for the final Europa League ticket, with the opponent depending on whether the Belgian Cup winner ended in the top four of the playoff 1 or not.
