Former Big Brother Naija housemate and actor, Elozonam Ogbolu, is calling out outdated ideas about masculinity.
In a recent episode of In The Company Of Men podcast, Elozonam said many Nigerian men still believe that cooking, buying sanitary pads, or even pleasing their women in bed makes them “less of a man.”
He called it what it is — toxic masculinity.
“Some guys think giving a woman head isn’t masculine. Buying groceries, cooking, or buying pads makes them uncomfortable,” he said.
Elozonam stressed that these beliefs don’t make sense and that real masculinity isn’t defined by gender roles.
He also pointed fingers at some women who fuel the cycle by idolizing toxic traits in men.
“There are women who can’t date you unless you’re toxic. They think being controlling or even violent means love. Some even say a man doesn’t love you if he doesn’t beat you. How?”
His take has sparked conversations online about what it really means to be a man in modern-day relationships.
