“People stopped inviting me to children’s birthday parties because I didn’t have a child” — Mo Bimpe reveals

Nollywood actress Mo Bimpe has recounted how she was excluded from some social gatherings because she had not become a mother at the time.

The actress opened up about the experience in an emotional post shared on Instagram, where she addressed women who may be facing challenges with conception.

According to Bimpe, there was a period when invitations to baby showers, naming ceremonies, children’s birthday parties and similar celebrations suddenly stopped coming.

She said the situation became more painful after discovering that some people had deliberately excluded her because she did not have children.

The actress recalled questioning herself and wondering whether she had done something wrong to deserve such treatment.

However, she said her desire was never to receive sympathy. She simply wanted to maintain her relationships and celebrate the happiness of people around her.

Bimpe explained that she has always loved children and wanted to share special moments with friends and acquaintances.

She wrote: “A few months ago, I would never have imagined writing this. Last night, as I returned home from celebrating baby Rakeem, I got emotional. Not because of the party itself, but because it reminded me of a difficult season.

“There was a time when I wasn’t invited to baby showers, naming ceremonies, children’s birthdays, or anything related to kids. Sometimes, these were people I knew personally.

“People I laughed with, worked with, and genuinely cared about. I remember wondering what I had done wrong. Later, I found out that some people intentionally left me out because I didn’t have children. At the time, it hurt deeply.

“Not because I wanted pity, but because I loved children. I wanted to celebrate with people. I wanted to share in their joy. What many people don’t realise is that struggling to conceive is already hard enough. The waiting is hard. The questions are hard. The insults are hard. The silent prayers are hard.

“Please don’t make it harder by excluding people. A woman without a child is not less deserving of love, friendship, inclusion, or celebration. Invite her. Love her. Celebrate with her. You never truly know what someone is carrying behind their smile.”

Bimpe’s experience formed the basis of her appeal to people to be more considerate towards women who do not have children.

She noted that people may be dealing with private struggles that are not obvious from their appearance or social interactions.

The actress therefore encouraged friends and family members to continue including women without children in celebrations instead of assuming they would feel uncomfortable around children.

She stressed that the absence of a child should never be used as a reason to deny anyone friendship, love or a sense of belonging.
