Jamie O’Hara believes Phil Foden has the potential to be one of England’s best ever players and tips him to surpass David Silva at Manchester City.

Despite being highly rated, the 20-year old has had to be patient for his opportunities under Pep Guardiola and for a period there were cries for him to go out on loan in search of regular first-team football.

But presently the pint-sized Stockport midfielder has grown into an important player for his boyhood club – so much so that he was handed a start over both Silvas (David and Bernardo) and Riyad Mahrez in the huge Champions League win over Real Madrid last week.

Foden, didn’t look out of place whatsoever against the 13-time European champions and now looks good value to play an even bigger role next term when Silva departs after ten years – while he also appears to be closing in on a debut for the England first-team.

And former Spurs and Wolves midfielder O’Hara thinks Foden is the real deal, delivering some quite incredible praise for City’s No.47.

“For me, he’s going to be one of the best players we’ve ever seen play for England,” he said on talkSPORT.

“We talk about David Silva, a Man City legend in terms of what he’s done, but he went to the club when he was established as a finished article.

“For me, Phil Foden is going to be way better than Silva at Man City. He’s doing it already against Real Madrid and he’s still only a kid.

“Everyone’s talking about Greenwood, Rashford and all these great young players, but Foden is the best player. He will be England’s best player.

“Play him anywhere he wants to play. I think he can play anywhere.”

Foden has eight goals in 38 games in all competitions this term and Guardiola has already put his faith in him by stating City won’t be purchasing a replacement for Silva as they have him to fill the Spaniard’s boots.

“In this position, when David says it is his last year I spoke with the board that we have Phil (Foden) so we don’t have to invest,” Guardiola said in a press conference.
