Pregnant Woman, 9 Others Injured As Rainstorm Wreaks Havoc In Bauchi

As many as ten persons, including a pregnant woman, have been left injured in Bauchi.

They were injured in Misau, the headquarters of Misau Local Government Area of Bauchi State, during a recent rainstorm that wreaked havoc in the town, leaving more than 500 houses destroyed.

It was gathered that many houses in the town had their fences pulled down, roofs blown off and some buildings completely Collapsed.

Confirming the disaster to journalists in Bauchi, the Caretaker Chairman of Misau LGA, Salisu Hussain Hardawa, lamented the unfortunate incident, where people lost properties worth millions, adding that the victims have now found themselves in difficult and sympathetic situations.

He emphasised that the people now need quick assistance to rebuild.

Hardaw informed that the 10 persons injured during the incident were taken to the Misau General Hospital for medical attention, adding that apart from the pregnant woman, another woman suffered a fracture in her leg and has since been taken to the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Azare.

While empathising with the victims, Hardawa said the state governor, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to immediately assess the situation.

The caretaker chairman appealed to the state government to intervene and provide relief materials for victims to cushion the effect of the unfortunate incident.

He, however, expressed gratitude to Allah that no life was lost in the disaster and prayed against a recurrence of such in the area.

Hardawa then appealed to residents of the area to plant trees in their environment with a view to addressing the issue of desert encroachment, asserting that if there had been a culture tree planting in the area, the disaster could have been averted.

Meanwhile, the Director General, SEMA, Bauchi, Bala Yakubu Lame, confirmed to journalists that the Agency is currently assessing the situation in the area and will soon submit its report to the state government for appropriate intervention.
