PSG Stars Are Prepared To Reduce Their Salaries By 50% (Le Parisien)

Paris Saint-Germain’s star players are prepared to reduce their salaries by 50 per cent to compensate for the consequences of the coronavirus crisis.

This comes on the heels of many clubs around Europe initiating cost-cutting measures in order to try and combat the impact of the pandemic.

This is part of the agreement that is being finalised by the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) and National Union of Professional Footballers (UNFP), Le Parisien have revealed.

The agreement that is about to be announced by the LFP and the UNFP allows each player to accept the salary cut or not, but it prevents clubs from imposing it above the agreed limits.

According to Le Parisien, the PSG stars accept what has been agreed, setting an example for the rest, as the capital club has by far the highest paid squad in the French top flight.

The 50 per cent reduction in salary concerns players who earn more than 100,000 euros per month, which is roughly 50 in the entirety of Ligue 1, with most of them in PSG’s ranks.

Those who earn between 50,000 and 100,000 euros per month can have their salary reduced by a maximum of 40 per cent, and up to 30 per cent for those who earn between 20,000 and 50,000 euros.

The cut can be as much as 20 per cent for those earning between 10,000 and 20,000 euros, while those with a lower salary will not have their salary reduced.

The agreement foresees that the reduction will be recovered in the following months if football gets back underway.

Most French professional clubs have already taken advantage of partial unemployment measures, like an ERTE, including PSG, who did so at the beginning of April, according to Le Parisien.

The newspaper states that the capital club will lose around 300 million euros because of the COVID-19 pandemic, which in France has already caused more than 80,000 infections and almost 11,000 deaths.
