Salah Makes Liverpool History As He Reaches 20-Goal Mark For A Third Season

The Egyptian forward, who has been a prolific presence throughout his time at Anfield, has maintained a remarkable level of consistency

Mohamed Salah has made more Liverpool history, with the Egyptian becoming the first man to hit 20 goals for the Reds in three different Premier League campaigns.

Anfield has been graced by a number of top attacking talents down the years, from Robbie Fowler to Luis Suarez via Fernando Torres, but none can claim to have matched a star of the present.

Salah has been a model of consistency throughout his time on Merseyside, with remarkable standards maintained in what has been a testing 2020-21 campaign for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

How did Salah break the record?

There were less than three minutes on the clock when Salah opened the scoring for Liverpool in a Premier League home date with Newcastle.

The ball looped in his direction as he waited at the back post for a chance to fall his way.

Facing away from the target, a sumptuous touch from the 28-year-old allowed him to drag the ball out of the sky and spin on the spot.

From such close range, Magpies goalkeeper Martin Dubravka stood no chance as a fierce shot fizzed past him and crashed into the net.

The bigger picture

Salah was snapped up by Liverpool from Roma in the summer of 2017.

The former Chelsea man hit the ground running back in English football, registering 44 goals across all competitions in his debut campaign.

Of those, 32 came in the Premier League, which was enough to secure a Golden Boot.

That prize was captured again the following season, with Salah matching the 22-goal haul of Sadio Mane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the top-flight.

Salah is now in the process of chasing down a notable hat-trick , with an effort against Newcastle moving him one behind Tottenham striker Harry Kane on the Premier League top scorer chart.

In total, the talented frontman has hit 123 goals for Liverpool across 198 appearances.
