Shippers Council Donates Medical Equipment To FCT School

The Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) has donated sickbay equipment to  the Government Junior Secondary School,  Kurudu, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

The Executive Secretary of NSC, Mr Hassan Bello,  while presenting the items to the school, said the gesture was to support and empower needy Nigerians.

Bello was represented by the  Deputy Director,  Abuja Liaison Office of NSC,  Hajia Rakiya Nuhu.

He reiterated the council’s commitment to its CSR,  which he said was targeted at the grassroots with a view to touching lives at the base of the society.

”Our gathering here today is to  support and empower Nigerians in need in different ways,  as part of our corporate social responsibility activities.

” Accordingly, the government JSS Kurudu  was found qualified to attract the attention of NSC’s CSR intervention and was graciously chosen as one of beneficiaries for the year 2020 CSR.

”The council is here today to deliver to the school’s clinic, two hospital beds,  two air mattresses,  two electric Irons and two rechargeable lamps.

”We are delivering four blankets,  four mosquito nets,  four white bed sheets,  four towels and one Honda Generator.

”Other items include, two hotwater bottles, a rechargeable fan, one double door fridge and four buckets.

”NSC’s joy will know no bounds when we find out that these items are judiciously used in touching the lives of the ordinary Nigerian citizen,” Bello said.

The NSC boss also promised to look into some of the challenges faced by the school and proffer assistance where applicable.

The principal of the school,  Mrs Talatu Isah,  appreciated the gesture of the NSC which it rendered to the school through the Queen Agnes Foundation.

Isah said the gesture was not just for the school but for the Kurudu community at large, adding that the items would be judiciously  used for the benefit of the students.

She however said the school faced  challenges of  hall,  inadequate toilets,  fallen fence, depleted library and blocks of classrooms overtaken by termites among others.

She called on the shippers council and the school’s board to assist in anyway possible to enable the school attain greater heights.

Mrs Thelma Akinduru,  President,  Queen Agnes Foundation (QAF)  appreciated  the NSC for responding to her request to provide the items for the school.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Akinduru facilitated the construction of the sickbay and approached the NSC with the demand to provide the needed items.

Akinduru, however,  said she realised the needs of the school and was burdened by the fact that the school had no sickbay.

”Being moved by the fact that the sickbay was very essential especially at this period of COVID-19 where a lot of medical attention is needed for the children, I began to think of how best to handle the issue.

”I approached the shippers council and expressed the fact that the school needs  help and should be assisted,” she said.

According to her, the NSC came afterwards, inspected the school and decided to support them.

The presentation of the items was witnessed by some officials of the school,  board members,  students and well wishers who were delighted by the items.
