Nigeria striker Asisat Oshoala delivered a powerful message calling for the rescue of ab0ducted teachers and schoolchildren after helping the Super Falcons secure a 2-1 victory over Senegal in a friendly match on Friday.
The veteran forward scored Nigeria’s opening goal from the penalty spot in the first half at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, but it was her celebration that drew widespread attention.
After converting from 12 yards, Oshoala held up a wristband bearing the message: “Save the teachers. Bring back our children,” using the occasion to highlight the recent abduction of dozens of pupils and teachers in Oyo State.
The friendly served as part of Nigeria’s preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, with the Super Falcons showing their quality against the Teranga Lionesses.
Oshoala broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute before Toni Payne doubled Nigeria’s advantage shortly before the halftime break.
Senegal pulled a goal back late in the encounter through an 86th-minute strike, but the nine-time African champions held on to claim the win.

The result gave head coach Justine Madugu plenty of positives ahead of the continental tournament, although Nigeria missed several chances that could have produced a more comfortable scoreline.
Oshoala’s message was linked to the abduction of 46 people in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
According to reports, gunmen attacked three schools on May 15, kidnapping 39 pupils and seven teachers. Two members of staff were reportedly killed during the incident.
The affected schools include Baptism Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, Community Grammar School in Esiele and L.A. Primary School in Ahoro-Esinele.
The kidnappings have triggered concern across the country, with calls growing for authorities to intensify efforts to secure the release of the victims.
By displaying the wristband during her goal celebration, Oshoala used her platform to keep attention on the incident and advocate for the safe return of those abducted.
The Super Falcons will face Senegal again in a second friendly on Monday as they continue preparations for next year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
