The Last Good Girl In Lagos Died

There is a popular saying that prostitution is the oldest profession in the world. Some people will say it’s farming. Both claims are highly debatable. In the 21st century, one is becoming more popular and attractive to young people than the other. And this is alarming!

I remember those days when it was a shame to pay for sex. Only people that were not man enough did that. Only an uncultured woman with an extremely odd family background will open her legs for a fee, taking on all-comers who could pay like it’s the gate to a stadium.

In recent times, the youths appear to be shunning agriculture and embracing prostitution. Rather than sweat on the farmlands and labour endlessly under the sun, exposing yourself to harsh weather conditions and insects, you can just get paid for enjoying yourself under a roof, in a very cosy environment. This is the orientation most women now have in Lagos State and it is highly disturbing.

Transactional sex is now the order of the day. It is either you are overly trading or you are covertly doing it. Whores are now being given interesting names like bad girl, runs girl, olosho, sarewagba, big girl, twerker, social media influencer and other names that tend to colour the ungodly image attached to what they do.

All of a sudden, sex is now seen as an economic activity. It must have been on this ground that billionaire Ned Nwoko said marrying more than one wife helps save the society. He believes the move will prevent them from going into prostitution.

I remember when Nigerian rapper, Ruggedman was shamed for allegedly sleeping with his dancers. This was exposed during his infamous beef with his former protege, 9ice in 2009/10. Everyone felt that kind of character wasn’t that nice but today, he will be celebrated for impregnating all of them in one fell swoop. This tends to paint a picture of the degradation of our values and morals in human society.

If my memory serves me right, late Nigerian rapper, Da Grin was one of the few contemporary musicians to admit to paying for sex. He talked about his passion for weed, prostitutes and alcohol. When he passed on and Olamide started coming on, he took the baton from him and propagated the message of hoeism further. Other rappers soon loved the buzz and joined the trend. Today, Naira Marley is a big ambassador of the industry. He isn’t hiding his passion for dealing with escorts and the society is loving it. Now, there is no shame about it. You can just tell your colleague at work that you are horny and he will provide the phone number of a girl that could do justice to your body.

Sleeping with prostitutes has become as normal as seeing a doctor when you are sick. This trend is rampant in Lagos and most ladies are making a living out of it. Most young adults even feel it is more cost-effective and less stressful to deal with prostitutes. This is done on a ‘postpaid or Pay As You Go basis. The ladies feel they are being paid for enjoying themselves. Most of them see it as a transitional job that can be used to solve immediate needs. With a few bucks as low as N5,000, you might have your next-door neighbour in bed with you. There seems to be an understanding between the male and the female counterparts.

Lagos is a land of games and dirty tricks. The guys are not oblivious to the fact that the ladies have multiple sexual partners. The ladies also understand that one of the driving forces of the attention they get is sexual. Rather than try and cheat in the game, the players prefer to put all their cards on the table and honour the unwritten agreements. Where are the good girls? It is hard to answer that question. The good girls are available but the truth is that they are in the minority and even a large section of the small number of good ones is potentially bad. They are only seeking for the necessary wings to fly. If a Femi Otedola slides into the DM of your lover, what do you think her reaction will be? That is a million-dollar question.

Let me close this piece with a real-life story. A friend was trying to buy something at a local market place one evening when he saw a young lady walking alone. She wore a short black gown and a leg chain. The shortness of the gown, the light skin and the leg chain gave him the inkling that she might be ‘one of them’. So he made his move. He approached the lady and got her phone number. Not too long after they started chatting, the lady demanded a sum of N5,000 which she needed urgently. This is more of a registration fee, it shows how serious and financially capable you are. Once you fail, she will secretly block you on Whatsapp. Once you pay, she automatically increases your priority level.

Back to the story of my friend, after a short while, he asked her for sex. He offered to pay about N15,000 for two rounds. That’s not much. It’s just a small deal struck between parties that live within the same locality. According to my friend, she turned down the deal, claiming she was decent. She blocked him on Whatsapp and they both moved on. In less than 48hrs, she unblocked him and accepted the offer and that was all she wrote!

The bottom line here is that the last good girl in Lagos has died! If you have any decent girl in your life, please keep her. You might suffer for 600 years searching for a new good one if you lose her.
