“There’s no prayer point abroad” — Lady sparks reactions

A Nigerian lady living abroad has stirred reactions on social media after claiming that people living outside Nigeria have fewer prayer concerns because many basic needs are already met.

In a viral video circulating on X, the lady argued that the major prayer point for many people abroad is simply to remain alive and enjoy life.

According to her, many of the daily struggles that drive people to constant prayers in Nigeria are largely absent in developed countries.

There’s no prayer point abroad, the only prayer point here is, ‘God keep me alive to enjoy’.”

She further said: “Abroad people, they don’t have prayer point. Wetin dey want pray for again? God has done it.”

Video triggers mixed reactions

The woman’s remarks quickly generated debate online, with many Nigerians sharing differing opinions on the relationship between religion, economic hardship and daily living conditions.

A user identified as Mayor_og questioned whether Nigerians would remain as religious if the country functioned better.

Makes me always wonder if Nigerians would still be religious people if the country were to be functioning and basic amenities were to be provided and there’s a guarantee to the safety of lives and properties.”

Another user, Mrbuchy, blamed the country’s political leadership for the hardships citizens face.

The evil fashioned against us is our political class. They want us to sell Kuli Kuli whilst they fly private jets and yachts!”

RealpizaFx agreed partly with the woman’s position, noting that people abroad often face fewer economic uncertainties.

Despite she is exaggerating, I still understand her so well because you don’t see people going to church as they often do in Nigeria. Many things are working in their economy.”

Mercy highlighted the everyday anxieties many Nigerians deal with.

In Nigeria you pray before sleeping, after waking up, before entering a bus, before buying fuel and before checking your account balance.”

However, another user, Pelumi, disagreed with the woman’s perspective, insisting that prayer should go beyond seeking material needs.

Because to her God is to be used not served and worshipped. For me, God is my Father. I ever desire to be in his presence.”
