Three Killed, 14 Injured In Lagos–Ibadan Expressway Multiple Collision

Barely 48 hours after 16 people were burnt to death in an accident along the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway, at least three people have died while 14 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a multi-vehicle collision along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

PUNCH Metro learnt in a traffic update by the Commandant General of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Seni Ogunyemi, that the accident occurred late Wednesday night at the Ogere axis of the expressway.

Ogunyemi noted that the accident, which involved six vehicles and 23 occupants, occurred when one of the vehicles fell on its side while turning and spilling its contents on the road.

The TRACE CG noted that five other vehicles that were unaware of what had occurred ahead, rammed into the falling truck due to speeding.

He wrote, “A fatal RTA/RTC occurred at Mile 12 outbound Ogere along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at about 2035hrs.

“According to an eyewitness account, the white Benz truck had a lone accident when making a turn, and the contents (empty plastic) split on the road. Other accident vehicles started running into the white Benz truck due to high speed.”

“23 people were involved. Three male adults died, and 14 people comprising 11 males and three females were injured.”

He identified the vehicles involved as one unregistered ash colour DAF tanker, one white Mazda bus with number plate LSD72YK, and one white Benz truck with number plate KRD 787 XD.

Others are a white Nissan bus with number plate KTU594YG, a green unregistered DAF truck, and a white Toyota Venza with number plate ABJ 675 DR.

He noted that the injured victims were rescued at the PATMAG Hospital located in Ogere while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the FOS morgue in the Isara REmo area of the state.

“The injured victims were rescued to PATMAG hospital, trailer park, Ogere for treatment by FRSC while the presumed dead bodies have been deposited at FOS morgue, Isara, by FOS ambulance and PATMAG morgue, Sagamu,” Ogunyemi concluded.
