The trigger-happy policeman who shot the driver of a commercial vehicle and a passenger in Bayelsa State on January 6 has been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force.

The spokesman for the Bayelsa State Police Command, Mr Asinim Butswat, stated this on Tuesday in response to an enquiry by our correspondent.

The officer in question had shot the driver and the passenger in front of a second generation bank where he was a security guard on duty.

The officer and the driver were said to have had an altercation over parking rights which resulted in the shooting.

The two victims, who survived the brutal assault, have been receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Uche Anozia, ordered the arrest and detention of the suspect at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.

Butswat said, “He has been dismissed from the Force and the process for (his) arraignment is ongoing.”
