Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo has received a morale-boosting vote-of-confidence from Manchester United manager Ole Gunner Solskjaer ahead of Tuesday night’s UEFA Champions League tie away to PSG.

Despite falling further behind in the pecking order and his goals seemingly dried up fast, Solskjaer insists Ighalo is still an important member of the Manchester United set-up.

The Red Devils are presently depleted with a number of players not available for the potentially testy clash in Paris.

However, Ighalo is included in United’s 21-man squad for Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League matchday one tie against Paris Saint-Germain.

The former Super Eagles striker has so far made just three appearances for Solskjaer’s side in all competitions this season but he is yet to score.

Solskjaer told the press the signing of former PSG striker Edison Cavani does not make Ighalo less important as he has done well in the few games he has played this season.

“As a team and club we always want to get players in,” the United coach said in his pre-match press conference

“And Edison coming in, we will give him time to adapt to the Premier League and as a team gets his fitness and sharpness back.

“And we’ve had some very good performances by Odion and he is still a very important part of this squad.”

Ighalo’s extended loan stint with United ends in January before the 31-year old returns to China.
