Experienced midfielder, Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene and Anam Imo have been called up as replacements for Desire Oparanozie and Chinwendu Ihezuo in Super Falcons’ squad for the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.
Oparanozie and Ihezuo are injured and have been ruled out of the competition.
The Nigeria Football Federation announced that Okobi-Okeoghene and imo will link up with the team in Abuja as they continue preparations for the WAFCON.
Okobi-Okeoghene, who plays for Swedish club, Eskilstuna United was a surprise omission from the initial squad.
The attacking midfielder, who has been in fantastic form for his club this season, was part of the Super Falcons side that won the WAFCON title in 2010, 2014, 2016 and 2018.
Imo, who plays for another Swedish club, Pitea IF, was part of the team to the last WAFCON in Ghana and 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.
Head Coach, Randy Waldrum is expected to release his final rooster for the competition this week.
The Super Falcons are pitted in Group C along with title rivals, South Africa and debutants, Botswana and Burundi.
The nine-time champions will open their campaign against the Banyana Banyana of South Africa on July 4.
