We will bring back subsidy after tackling corruption’ – Peter Obi promises Nigerians

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has promised to restore petroleum subsidy if elected, stating that his administration would first tackle corruption across the country.  

Peter Obi made the statement on Monday at a town hall meeting held in Sokoto State for the joint Obi-Kwankwaso presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He identified systemic corruption as Nigeria’s primary economic challenge and pledged to eliminate graft across all public sectors upon assuming office. 

“People are talking about subsidy but what is all about it is corruption. By removing the corruption, I assure you that we will bring back subsidy.  

“The problem of Nigeria is corruption, as such, if elected, we will stop all forms of corruption in every sector of the country,” Peter Obi stated.

The former Anambra State governor called on citizens to support NDC candidates across all elective positions in 2027, describing national reform as a collective civic responsibility. 

He reaffirmed his party’s commitment to a governance model anchored on “care and service to Nigerians.”

Expressing concern over widespread economic hardship, Peter Obi committed to reallocating state resources toward national security, educational development, and infrastructural expansion.  

“Education is our number one priority after unity and security,” Peter Obi added.  

He also pledged to connect all state capitals across Nigeria via an integrated railway network to accelerate commerce and regional economic integration.
