Wenger Was HAPPY To See Liverpool Lose To Watford As He Wants Arsenal To Carry ‘Invincibles’ Tag

Arsene Wenger admitted he was happy to see Liverpool lose to Watford in the Premier League early this season and have Arsenal remain the only club with the ‘Invincibles’ tag.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have run away in the Premier League title race this season, 25 points ahead of Manchester City in second place. Their incredible season hit it’s first snag, however, when they travelled to bottom of the table Watford in a shocking 3-0 defeat to end their unbeaten campaign.

The win for the Hornets meant that Arsenal’s 2003-04 season – managed by Wenger – remained the only unbeaten season in Premier League history, much to Frenchman’s delight.

‘Yes, it was a form of satisfaction (to see Liverpool lose). We always like to be the only ones to achieve something,’ Wenger explained to beIN Sports.

‘They (Liverpool) could really go all the way. But it shows that it’s difficult to repeat this feat.

‘Anyway, that day, I had a lot of messages from Arsenal supporters.’

A brace from Ismaila Sarr and a third from captain Troy Deeney ensured that Watford secured a vital three points in their bid for topflight survival as all Arsenal fans breathed a sigh of relief at the full-time whistle.

The Gunners most infamous squad finished the 2003-04 season with 90 points, managing 26 wins and 12 losses during the campaign.

The North London outfit was star-studded with foreign talent such as Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira and Dennis Bergkamp as they became the first ever club to lift the golden Premier League trophy for their feat.

Whilst Jurgen Klopp’s Reds can no longer claim the ‘Invincibles’ tag alongside Arsenal, there are still plenty of one-season records up for grabs for Liverpool if the Premier League season can be completed.

Liverpool currently have 82 points in the league with nine matches remaining – meaning they could potentially finish the season with 109 points, the most in Premier League history.
