The Kogi State High Court in Lokoja, has ordered the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC,
Ola Olukoyede, to appear before it on 13 May to show why he should not be jailed for allegedly disobeying its order.
The order at the bequest of Yahaya Bello through an application bordering on contempt charge against Olukoyede, was handed down by the judge, I.A. Jamil.
The latter gave the order in a ruling in a suit marked, HCL/68M/2024 with which the ex-governor is seeking the court to stop his arraignment and trial on N80 billion money laundering charges levelled at him by the anti-graft agency.
Mr Bello in his application, accused the EFCC Chair of committing contempt by allegedly violating the court’s order barring the EFCC from arresting him.
The EFCC had made vain attempts to arraign the immediate-past Kogi governor before the Federal High Court in Abuja on grounds of allegedly laundering N80.2bn, property of Kogi State.
